Applicant System-To-System

You can connect your organization’s grant management system directly to Grants.gov using webservices in our System-to-System (S2S) interface. 

What you need before you start

To use the Grants.gov S2S interface, your organization should have:

• A developer who understands XML and knows how to use web services.

• Knowledge of Java is helpful because the sample code in the Applicant Reference Implementation uses it. 

• A clear understanding of your organization’s databases, since they will be used to store and send information to and from Grants.gov.

Setting up System-to-System with Grants.gov

This guide assumes your organization already has a Grants.gov account profile with the Expanded AOR role. If you are connecting to Grants.gov Web Services for the first time, you should: 

• Review the Applicant S2S Version Table and the Applicant Web Services page to learn about the Version 2.0 Web Services.

• Download the Version 2.0 Applicant WSDL from the link in the Applicant Versions & WSDLs.

• Download the Version 2.0 Web Service using the link found in the Applicant Reference Implementation.

• Learn about the Grants.gov Hashing Standards  

• Get a digital certificate and make sure it is set up correctly so your system can communicate securely with Grants.gov. See the Applicant Certificates.

• Create an account and add organization applicant profile to test your connection as an applicant at training.grants.gov. You will be prompted to create and link a “sandbox” account through Login.gov.
